What benefits is a Salt Lake City injured worker entitled to?

Under Utah Code Title 34A, Chapter 2, an injured worker may be entitled to four categories of benefits, depending on the case:

1. Lost Wage Benefits (TTD / TPD)

If your injury keeps you out of work, Utah pays Temporary Total Disability (TTD) at 66.67% of your Average Weekly Wage, capped at the State Average Weekly Wage. If you return to work but earn less because of restrictions, you may qualify for Temporary Partial Disability (TPD).

2. Permanent Partial Disability (PPD)

Once your condition stabilizes, your treating physician assigns an impairment rating. Utah PPD is calculated as: impairment % × 312 weeks × benefit rate. Most Salt Lake City cases settle here. The CVR calculator computes this automatically.

3. Medical Benefits

Workers' compensation pays 100% of authorized medical care related to the injury — no deductibles, no copays. This includes doctor visits, surgery, physical therapy, prescriptions, and prosthetics. You also get reimbursed for medical mileage.

4. Permanent Total Disability (PTD)

If you cannot return to any work due to the injury, you may qualify for PTD — weekly benefits paid for life. Utah law also has statutory PTD for permanent loss of both hands, both eyes, both legs, or any combination thereof.

Construction is one of the highest-risk industries in Utah. Falls, struck-by accidents, lifting injuries, and equipment-related injuries are the most common claims. If you were hurt on a Salt Lake County job site, you're entitled to TTD (lost wages), medical, and likely a PPD rating. Use the CVR calculator to estimate what your specific injury is worth.

The Utah Labor Commission, Industrial Accidents Division is at 160 East 300 South, Salt Lake City, UT 84111. Phone: (801) 530-6800. They administer all workers' comp claims for the state, including hearings, mediation, and settlement approvals.

The maximum benefit is tied to the State Average Weekly Wage (SAWW) in effect on your date of injury. As of July 1, 2025, the SAWW is approximately $1,014/week, and the TTD/PPD weekly maximum is set by the Utah Labor Commission. The CVR calculator applies the correct year-of-injury rate automatically.

Not always — but Salt Lake County has more denied claims and complex cases than rural areas. If your insurer is offering significantly less than the CVR calculator estimate, an attorney usually recovers more than their 25% cap fee. Most Utah workers' comp attorneys offer free consultations.

Simple cases (no impairment, employer cooperative) settle in 3–6 months. Cases with PPD ratings: 6–12 months. Denied claims that go through the Industrial Accidents Division hearing process: 12–24 months. The CVR calculator gives you the numbers immediately so you don't have to guess.
